    The sculptures  by Floscel Aubert

     Why sculptures in cellular concrete?

Floscel’s sculptures are distinguished by their use of an atypical, light, innovative material with a strong ecological dimension that fully subscribes to an eco-responsible approach. Indeed, it values cellular concrete waste, promotes waste reduction and raises awareness of eco-citizenship through its creations. A « global » inspiration with a style that is both colorful, expressive and accessible.

It was during the Covid pandemic that Floscel decided to build a cellular concrete barbecue in his garden. He still has scraps of this material, which is composed mainly of natural materials (water, sand, lime, cement) and contains 80% air, making it very light and ecological.

The achievements, a colorful and playful artistic approach

Each work is unique, joyful, and often carries a story related to a place or a culture. Each of them is directly inspired by her travels and the art of the world, notably:

      • Moai Series: Stylized reproductions of statues from Easter Island, often painted with colorful patterns inspired by Aboriginal art.
      • Carved chess boards: Notably the series of chess games ‘Ibiza’ and ‘Easter Island’, with pieces with expressive and colorful faces.
      • The Sibling: A series of five Moai heads (30 to 35 cm), with soft shapes and bright or pastel colors, marked by dotted lines of aboriginal type.
      • Monumental chess pieces: « King Pepito », « Queen Pepita », « The Rook », « The Knight », « The Bishop » (eight-sided), all in the series of « blues ».
      • Paintings: in small format «4 looks», and large formats «The 9 faces» (front and side, inspired by MoaĂŻ statues), and «Oceania» which represents the seabed. To perfect this trilogy ‘nature’, in project ‘Amazonia’ and ‘Desertica’.
      • Other objects: A carved bottle entitled «Bois-moi» for a winemaker named «Pic St-Loup», an owl called «Hiboo» and a candlestick in blue tones.

    Inspirations?

The achievements of Floscel Aubert are inspired by his travels to discover different cultures, but also by street art and architecture in general.

    A multicultural and traveling inspiration

Floscel’s sculptures are directly inspired by his many travels he organizes around the world. There are shapes evoking the Moai of Easter Island, Australian aboriginal patterns, African masks, or even colors from Oceania and Amazonia.

    His sculptures are characterized by:

    • Stylized and refined shapes: Moai heads (inspired by Easter Island), monumental chess pieces, everyday objects revisited, often with rounded contours and simple volumes.
    • Ethnic motifs: Use of dotted lines, a characteristic reminiscent of Aboriginal or Oceanic art, bringing a multicultural dimension to his works.
    • Bright and contrasting colors: Blue, turquoise, red, yellow, white, black and ochre, applied in solid or patterned, with a strong influence of natural and symbolic palettes of the arts of Oceania and Africa.
    • Naturalistic inspiration: Some works incorporate animal or plant elements, stylized in an abstract way, evoking the diversity of landscapes and cultures encountered during his travels.

The whole creates a universe that is both contemporary and rooted in the artistic traditions of the world, where color and form are central to transmitting the energy and memory of travel.

An inspiration by the great architects and street art

The works of Floscel Aubert mix the influence of great architects (shapes, volumes, spatial integration) and street art (colors, patterns, interaction with the public) to create unique forms, at the crossroads of art, architecture and urban culture.

    The influence of architects

Floscel Aubert is inspired by great architects like Antoni Gaudí, known for his organic shapes, sculptural volumes and innovative techniques such as the “trencadis” mosaic (mosaic of colored fragments). This approach is reflected in the attention to detail, the search for elaborate forms, the valorisation of recycled materials, and the integration of architectural patterns from different cultures.

He is also inspired by the works of architects such as the Brazilian Niemeyer, the Franco-Swiss Le Corbusier and the Japanese Tadao Ando. The great architects, from Art Nouveau to contemporary architecture, have always integrated art into their creations, playing on shapes, volumes and decoration to transform space.

    The influence of street art

Floscel Aubert also incorporates codes of street art, notably with the use of bright colors, repetitive patterns, and techniques derived from graffiti, stencil or urban sculpture. As in street art, his works are accessible, playful, and play with space and public perception, transforming the sculpture into a direct visual experience.

Finally, the mix of architectural references (organic forms, mosaics, volumes) and street art energy (colors, spontaneity, popular patterns) gives birth to singular sculptures, both modern, expressive and anchored in their time.

First prize in the « Sculpture » category at the Beverly Hills art show

Conclusion, Floscel Aubert has established himself as an original figure of contemporary sculpture, combining recycling, color and multicultural inspiration, crowned by international recognition in Beverly Hills.
